Black-Crowned Night Heron in Local Creek

When I first moved to Glenview 15 years ago, my neighbors were just beginning a project to restore the local creek. I joined in for a couple years. They’re still at it and have done wonders, to the benefit of all the residents. I recently spotted a Black-Crowned Night Heron in Sausal Creek and board member Mark Rauzon caught a perfect photo of it days earlier. To read my blog, see the Friends of Sausal Creek newsletter. Since I wrote it, I learned that that the City of Oakland pruned or cut their nesting trees on the islands in Lake Merritt, which could be a reason this one flew into Glenview, looking for a new home.
